THE STORY

Why this does not feel impossible.

The project starts with roughly forty pins and a decision to document every addition correctly from the beginning. The collection is being built alongside the Modoto Pins storefront, which means active inventory, trade-ins, purchases, donations, and permanent collection pieces can all enter through the same structured intake process.

Every distinct design receives a permanent database identity. Every physical copy receives its own item record. The intake system can classify subjects, colors, characters, brands, franchises, materials, variants, sources, market evidence, and acquisition history through a Dewey-inspired taxonomy built specifically for pins.

The long-term objective is not only ownership. It is a living public reference archive: a place where common mass-produced pins, obscure artist pins, regional releases, counterfeits, variants, and uncertain origins can be researched instead of disappearing into private boards and resale listings.

Built for evidence, not reconstructed later.

The record attempt is being designed around record-ready documentation from the first intake. The database and spreadsheet exports are intended to support a unique-item inventory, batch photography, source evidence, and a future filmed count. The exact proof package will follow the current guidelines issued for the final Guinness application rather than relying on assumptions made years in advance.

Pins committed to the record collection are tracked separately from store inventory. Permanent pieces and pins considered too rare to sell can remain visible in the public Modoto Collection without revealing private acquisition cost or storage location.

Original art matters.

Modoto Pins will not intentionally stock AI-generated pin art. That standard is difficult to verify for anonymous, mass-produced designs, which is another reason provenance and origination research matter. Where a creator, manufacturer, catalog, release, or original source can be identified, the archive will preserve that evidence and make uncertainty clear when it cannot.

How the collection grows.

The plan combines store inventory, individual purchases, complete collection acquisitions, trades, and donations. A North America, Europe, and Japan intake service is planned so collectors can submit what they have, receive a quote, and—after approval—receive a prepaid label or confirmed shipping reimbursement.

The target is aggressive: exceed the published benchmark, continue past any separately documented larger count, and reach 100,000 pins within a system that can explain exactly what each pin is and why it belongs in the count.
